He's dating someone else but I want him!

Question - (28 June 2008) 2 Answers - (Newest, 28 June 2008)
A female South Africa age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ok, a guy is already involved with someone else. He says that in the past 2 weeks he has been drifting away from her. He visits me more than he does her and we spend evenings together just chatting and enjoying ourselves, there was a time when I could have slept with him but I said no and he respected that. We made out but that's where it stayed. He is coming to live in my house with me and my 4 sisters because my parents are going away and my dad asked him too look after us just for "male protection". How will I get his full attention only on me and make him forget about her? Because every one tells me that he is attracted to me and likes me but I'm too scared to believe that. I don't want to get hurt. But I've been in love with him for the past 2years and I think/hope he feels the same. What should I do?

A reader, anonymous, writes (28 June 2008):

You were close enough for the subject of sex to come up, when you said no. He probably knows you like him. He says his drifting away from his girlfriend. If I were you I would wait until he finishes his relationship and then ask him for a date. If you try to start a relationship before whilst his with his last girlfriend, you will never be sure that he's not a compulsive cheat that will do the same to you.

You don't want to get hurt, then don't do anything untill he's freely available. Be sure not to have sex with him behind his girlfriends back. He may be leading you on and using you for sex, so make sure your in a relationship with him first before you do anything else.

Phsyciatrist-to-be agony auntWell, if you said no when you could have slept together and he respected that, that's definately a good sign. I would say you two going together would be a great thing. The only problem of course, is that he is already with someone.

I suggest you find out how he feels about this person: what they're like at the minute, how well does he think they're doing etc. If you understand that, you'll know how much of a chance you'll have with this guy.

If he says he's been "drifting away from her," that probably means he's looking for someone else.

Good luck; I hope it all works out!
