Cause when you put it in the right way you shouldn't feel it. So try placing one leg high up and rest it on the sink or something so that you can get a good angle. Then BEFORE you push the tampon out of the applicator, push the applicator deep enough, as deep as you can go, HOLD IT in place there, and then push the tampon in. When you push the tampon in just make sure that the applicaor is still as deep as you can go. Push the tamon all the way in and then once it is in pull the applicator out. I am sure you are probably thinking you know all this already but I guess I think it is just that you are not putting it deep enough and that is why it feels uncomfrotable.

BUT make sure you get the right size? Start small, this may be your problem. Also you will find that some tampons are more comfortable than others, you perhaps need to try to find what suits you best.

hi it takes time to get used to tampons
if it is not in enougth it will hurt, the instructions are pretty clear but you need to take your time and feel relaxed,
after a while you will be able to use them without thinking about it,
