I asked him if there was any reason to it, if he was with another girl or if he didn't care about me any more. He said that he wasn't with another girl, that he cared about me and would be devastated if something bad would happen to me, and that he is very selfish with his time. But that he still thinks we have a future together. He said he will try to talk to me a bit more and that was it. What does he mean when he says he still thinks we have a future together? I am a very understanding girlfriend and very open minded with him, I know he isn't cheating on me because his best friend is my best friend too and neither keep secrets from me. He knows I would let him go if he wanted someone else, so that is not the point. I just want to know what he means

I'm afraid the only person who knows what he means is him. So you've got to have one of those sit down face to face chats. Ask him gently how HE sees your future, that way you can get his opinion and you'll understand what he's talking about. lots of luck. x

Only he knows what he means, you need to ask him whenever you get a chance to have a nice face-to-face chat with him. The part about being selfish with his time is a little unsettling however.
