I'm in a long distance relationship with this guy I've yet to meet but we're both in love with each other. He's in the military and is overseas right now and I havent been able to talk to him as much as i used to before he left. This morning I got a text from his friend saying that my bf had been MIA (missing in action) for a long time and could be dead. I nearly broke down and i felt terrible until my bf calls me and says they found him and then he starts joking around like nothing happened. I'm confused because it seemed as if he doesnt understand how much i worry about him, and i think for good reason. but idk if he really appreciates it or if he misses me as much as i miss him. Is this just what comes with being the gf of a military man? lol. I'm really in pain here. Any ideas on how to cope? Thank you

It does come with being the gf of a military man I'm afraid. I have a friend who is in the army, and his girlfriend is always worried. Your boyfriend joked around because secretly he was terrified and didn't know how to deal with it. So he just made fun of it. And he probably won't understand how much you worry. No one ever does. Here in Britain, there are military support groups for wives, partners and children of army men. Maybe if they have those in the USA, you could join one and get to know women who are in the same situation as you.

person12345 agony auntMaybe he is feeling terrified/traumatized and joking around is his way of coping? Don't get angry at him for it, he's in a scary situation and just trying to deal with it.
