i started talking to a boy 7 weeks ago on the internet. he is in the army based abroad but doesnt live that far from me back home. we were chatting every night and started to like each other alot. he has just come back home for 3 weeks and i met him the first night and stayed over his. i have seen him once since then and that night he told me he would like to see me casually but wanted to stay single. since then he has ignored me on facebook, msn and when i text him. i dont understand as when we were chatting for 7 weeks he made he clear he wanted a girlfriend and was fed up of being single. do you think he went off me when he saw me?? thanks x

When we chat online with someone we are only getting part of the picture of who they are. So, our imaginations fill in those blanks and it is pretty normal (especially when we are away from home or feeling lonely) for our minds to do so by making that person as perfect as possible.

It's also easy to say things we don't really mean. After all, the other "person" isn't quite real anyway!

In other words, the whole thing is just a fantasy much of the time.

I don't think he went off you when he saw you. I think he discovered the fantasy and the reality didn't quite match up. He went off the thing he had made up in his head.

Unfortunately, either (A) the realty--you in person--didn't match the little fantasy in his head, or (B) he was telling you all those things because he was trying to score.

Enjoy the time you shared, now it's time to move on and drop him.
