My friend is having problems! He used to take a long time to come; he said it was because he smoked pot. Now he has quit pot and he doesn't even have nocturnal or morning erections. Can anyone explain what is going on? He is afraid of doctors.

EbonyBlossom agony auntErectile Dysfunction. Could be caused by smoking, drinking or drug abuse. Persistent use over time could still affect it after he's given up. I also noticed you're in your 50s. If he's the same age then it could just be to do with getting older (depressing as it sounds, but the same happens to loads of men his age.)

If he's scared to go to the doctors, then he could try viagra. But he should still get checked out.

Myau agony auntWell if he wont see a doctor.. you could look at his diet.

Thats usually the reason, get him eating vegetables and grains and less sugar and fat.

Myrrh agony auntIts a problem that hes afraid of doctors! They are the only ones that will have the answer to your question. Try and encourage him to go, offer to go with him and speak on his behalf if hes really scared. They wont do anything to him without his permission so he really has nothing to be frightened of. As C.Grant rightly says, it could be one of a number of medical conditions. He needs to be checked out.

A male reader, C. Grant Canada +, writes (30 March 2010):

C. Grant agony auntIf he's in his 50s and doesn't have spontaneous erections, then by all means it's a medical issue. He could have any number of medical problems: hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, bad circulation. He seriously needs medical attention -- it's not just an intimacy problem, it could be life or death.
