He broke up w/ me and said it's because I wasn't independent - but I'm not clingy at all!

A female age 41-50, anonymous writes:

My man broke up with me about a month ago. He just decided he didn't love me. We are both in late 20s. I am having such a hard time not over analyzing everything I did to make the relationship go downhill. As, he has told people, he just wanted me to be more independent. Which, really is bullshit, cause I was not clingy at all. How do I quit caring what he thinks? He doesn't care at all about me anymore it doesn't seem.

He is making excuses for himself. If he broke up with you then why is he telling such a load of rot. Just get over him and stop worrying what he has to say. Get out there in this party season girl and PARTY!!!!

When you truly love someone you don't wake up and decide one day you don't love them. Now you can get tired of a spouse or mate etc. and in time your feelings can or may settle. being independent is different than clingy. I'm not sure if you are saying because he felt you were clingy under him whenever possible rather than advancing yourself in your idle time. good luck sweetie in time all wounds heal to some sort of degree. A better man will come along. What kind of man will tell mutual people his problems with you without firsthand telling you? Not the kind you want to progress with. You want a man who can talk with you and give you a chance to work things out.

LISAG agony auntQuiting caring will only come with time. Date other men, they are a good distraction and you never know when you're going to meet another fabulous one ! Clingy is different to independent, but maybe there were aspects of your behaviour that gave him subtle signals that you were dependent on him ? I don't know but get on with your life it seems you have already realised that he dosen't care anymore - I know it's hard but no one ever said life was easy, especially relationships !! You'll find someone else better in time I can almost guarantee it ! Good luck - get looking !
