A female reader, CindyCares Italy +, writes (12 May 2010):

CindyCares agony aunt No LDR can stay a LDR forever. Have you discussed the feasibility of actually living together at some point ?

When that could happen ? In one year, in two years, in five years ? Who would be moving , and could he or she find work in the partner's area ? Have you had, or will you have, enough chances to meet in person and get to know each other in real life ?

Without the above, it's not a real relationship, it's just a romantic dream that at some point you have to let go. Might as well right now, if there is no workable plan for you to be together.

This is a long time to stay so far apart. Why haven't you made a bigger commitment to each other? Could one of you move to be with the other?
