Hmm, well I have been with my man for almost a year myself, and he's the same way when it comes to over thinking his gift purchases, not like jewelery and impossible to buy clothes for. So my opinion is that you should either go out and buy sexy lingerie and surprise -said- special day or buy him something he would use on a regular basis like music, video games, movies. You have stated that he plays guitar and bass correct, try getting him some new picks/ guitar straps/ or maybe a gift-card for a music store. If all else fails go see a movie on its opening night, "Sherlock Holmes" come out on Christmas day, Go out for dinner around 6-7 o-clock, then head to nearest theater.

when i was 16 i had the most memorable times going to concerts...he should love that...and you as well. but that should be a birthday gift...christmas, get him an outfit you KNOW he would like. At 16 clothes mean a lot...

how about gig tickets? or one of those experience packs you can get- there must be one musically related in there or even something basketball related, maybe you could find a vintage signed print of his favourite player or one of their shirts/balls?

What about some authentic memorabilia from one of his favorite musicians or bands? If that is a little too pricey for the budget, maybe a picture of him playing in his band and have it framed.
