I'm pretty sure it was sincere, as he's that sort of guy and he's been being very complimentary and sort of overly lovey the last few months. Thing is, I really don't feel that way about him, and the more he talks about his feelings for me, the more awkward I feel. I told him that I liked someone else, sort of as a way to get out of it. I didn't name any names. I do sort of like someone, but I didn't say who because Guy That Loves Me knows him! I'm scared it's going to be really weird when we see each other in person - can I rectify this?!

Things will only be awkward if you let them become awkward. You can still maintain the same freindly relationship you had with him before you knew about how he felt about you. Nothing will have to change, I think he just wants to let you know how he feels. If he asks if you feel the same way, just tell him that you don't but you still want to be his friend. Don't you?
I hope that helps.
