This is a follow up to my post on the 29th August

“ Are we being harsh by no longer giving neighbors fresh produce as they seem to take advantage?”

I wanted to thank everyone for backing us up and making us realize we weren’t being harsh for not providing our neighbors with more fresh produce.

Yesterday my neighbor actually came over to me saying she was in desperate need of some vegetables as she had a dinner party coming up. I told her that we didn’t have anything going spare to give her. She was put out by this and kept asking when more veg would become available and I was just being very vague with her- I wasn’t going to admit to her that she will no longer be receiving our goods.

The cheeky cow then tried to sell me more of her jam- which I politely declined!!

Honeypie agony auntThank you for the update!

Well done! And the cheek of her!

There are plenty of ways to find homemade jam, while hers might be a good one you can find better.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the post. I find it very amusing that someone says they are having a dinner party and this somehow means that you should grow vegetables and give them to her so that she does not have to go to the shop and buy some!! Then when that does not work she still wants them for herself on other days in the future. If she could she would have you spend all day growing vegetables and giving her first pick so that she never has to buy any vegetables ever again.

I know people who grow vegetables. They put a lot of time and effort into it, some of them get special stuff to put in the soil or spray them with etc, it costs money. Time and money. Yet you should do all this for free?

Then to make it even more absurd she expects you to pay her for her jam?!

Why don't you say to her. If you want such and such that costs such and such jars of jam and spell it out to her.

What the swap is that would interest you.

I get sick and tired of neighbours thinking they are entitled to live next door to you. I've got a neighbour who is always far too busy for me, if I suggest we get together and go for a meal and a chat she will tell me she is full booked for months. Which we know is untrue. But when we come home from being out and about for hours she is standing outside waiting for us and expects us to stand there for an hour listening to her going on and on about boring stuff she has told us before. What she really means is she does not want to set time aside to meet for a chat, or end up spending money on it, she only wants to chat to us when she has an empty day she does not know what to do with and expects us to go along with it when that happens. I smile at her and walk past instead. Seeing as I am tired and desperately need to sit down, want a cup of coffee, have phone calls to make, and the evening meal to get going, why would I stand there listening to her for an hour instead?

You have to be firm and not feel guilty when you put yourself first.
