reader, anonymous, writes (21 October 2008): Nobody can answer that with certainty. If differ from person to person. The use of tampons can have an effect on some and not on others. The hymen are not the same in all women. In some women it is stronger then in others. The hymen can also get streched by certain sports and activities and often girls do not experience bleeding the first time they engage in sex.

I agree with Sirena.. but not everyone bleeds the first time they have sex. I didn't... at least nothing showed up like that.

Usually, you bleed the first time that you have intercourse, it comes from the hymen being broken by penetration. Sometimes other things can cause the hymen to rupture, such as horseback riding, but tampons are unlikely to cause the hymen to break if they're inserted properly.
