I am 3-4 months pregnant. My boyfriend and I were having sex and I felt a sharp pain. When I went to the bathroom I was heavily bleeding.... I looked up the signs of having a miscarriage and I'm not getting cramps or vomitting. Did I have a miscarriage?

A female reader, mum2be United Kingdom +, writes (19 February 2007):

It is very normal to feel some pain when havong sex during pregnancy. This is because your partner's seamen contains hormaones that can cause contractions. These contraction are known as Braxton Hicks contractions and should fade quickly.

If you are concerned, i recomend that you talk with your midwife as soon as you can.

all the best my sweet

no you are not having a miscarriage, but you need to seek medical help straight away at your hospital, this has happened to me on both my pregnancies and they went on to be fine but with constant car, the hospital will scan you to check everything and do an internal exam, but on the upside you will see the little bundle and ask the sex... good luck

TasteofIndia agony auntHey sweetness,

I recently had a miscarriage and didn't experience severe cramps or anything. However, are you STILL bleeding? If the bleeding persists for more than a short period of time, then you need to call up your doctor. In fact, I'd call up your doctor NOW. Something might be wrong.

If the bleeding hasn't stopped since you wrote this question, I would call up immediatly. If the bleeding has stopped, I would call in the morning, but I wouldn't say you have an emergency on your hands. A miscarriage won't kill you, but it can be very, very, very scary.

I hope you're alright, sweetness.
