I wrote to him for New Year's and I sent him in the note something like" I know I'm the last one in your friend's list, but I want you to know I care for you". I did it b/c I know he has many friends and sometimes I feel like he doesn't care about me.He replied saying he landed Ok and said this "I do not number my friends so don't think you're last on the list". How should I take it anyway? I will keep sending him messages as always, but would like to know if by saying or replying that means he cares about me?

In Afghanistan he's going to be so bored that he's going to write to anyone.
I really don't think you should over analyse every little nice thing he says though. You'll drive yourself insane, and what if he comes back and just wants to have a million girls, or starts dating someone else? You'll be crushed!
Write to him but until he says something concrete, take it as a friendship and keep your options open.
Good Luck!! xx
