Well it sounds like he is a little bit confused, he said first of that he would do the same as this girls man did then he said different which was probably to let you no that he wouldnt leave you, am not sure.
It doesnt sound like he wants a baby at the moment, but if you feel he does sit down and talk to him about it and make sure that you wait until you are ready to start a family. Just be honest with him.

I think he would maybe like to have a baby with you someday...but if he said he would have freaked out and dumped the girl too then i would say he's not ready. after 2 years haven't ya'll talked about eventually getting married and having babies? you should get married first...and you're only 20 so plenty of times to have babies!

He might only be saying that because he wants to take care of you, reassure you that he will protect you, and wants to have a baby with you in the future. It's best if you ask him straight up when he wants to have a baby. Best of luck! xoxo glassblower

You are too young to be thinking about this. Focus on your education and career. If he said he'd do the same thing as your friend, then you know his heart isn't in the right place. If he said that he'll keep the baby with you and marry you, then his heart is. This is a hypothetical scenario, but listen to his words carefully.
