The only way that you're gonna find out for sure... is to become friends with him... somehow... and the only way that you do that... is if you meet through mutual friends... or you have some sort of shared activities/classes together... or you 'bump' into him in the hall... or lunchroom or something.
If YOU wanna get meet him YOU have to make the move. Especially since he's a year younger than you.
