writes: I need to vent.Does anyone else ever feel like the world is just full of corrupt, crooked, lying people who care about nothing else but money or power or even BOTH?I'm in my late twenties. To think that five years ago I actually looked at the world like it was some kind of wonderful place where you can pursue your passions and set goals to fulfill your dreams. Boy, have I had a reality check over the past few years.Firstly, I just want to say, that I, myself, am one of those RARE people that can't tell a lie. Sure, if I'm running late to something, I'll tell a fib that my car died, but that's where it ends! I've never bullied anyone or intentionally hurt anyone's feelings. When I make a mistake or something I've done has upset somebody, I'm the first to step up and take responsibility and apologise. I sleep well at night because I'm proud of the honest person I am and I am truly happy within myself because no matter what, I've never compromised my principles, despite being surrounded by greedy a**sholes.I've always been happy in my life and my relationship, but my work situation has always been a total disaster. It seems that no matter where I've worked in the past decade, there's been a chronic workplace bully in every office. I can't STAND people that delegate to others and deflect blame off themselves and actually earn a fabulous income from this! I can't believe how many power hungry maniacs there are out there that simply bark out orders, no matter whether they're IMPOSSIBLE to achieve, just for the sake of being the boss!Aside from the powerhungry freaks, what's just as bad is the money-hungry a**holes out there. I recently landed a sales rep opportunity. After being pushed around as the fulltime garbage collector and coffee maker (despite my qualifications, but based on the fact I'm just one of those people that finds it difficult to be assertive) I feel like I've spent my career running around in circles for the sake of solely feeding people's egoes! Needless to say, I was thrilled to get a break that would take me OUTSIDE the office, where I could work for myself. Two weeks into the job, I've had three lots of commission stolen from right under my nose by my boss and the only other sales rep in the company. There's always an excuse, "Sorry, I didn't see that on your list.." or "They approached me, so it's my money now." etc.If the situation was reversed and someone approached me, I'd immediately agree to pass over the commission, no question.. it's not mine to take! I cannot believe how selfish and greedy people are!I'm in a state at the moment where I don't believe there are any good people out there that even exist anymore! You know the kind I'm talking about.. the kind that would give you their shirt off their back if they could. Personally, as long as I have enough money to live on, I'm happy - end of story.I just can't believe the lying and the corruption that exists everywhere. People seem to only care about themselves.. and they're quite content to be coniving and sneaky if it benefits them. My own boss has stolen two lots of commission from me in the past week and I've only just started! She knows I'm saving hard for a house with my partner and that I've been running all over the city this past fortnight trying to clock up any sale I can, but have yet to earn nothing!Does anyone else ever feel this way? Are there any good people out there left in the world? What happened to people and how do they sleep at night? How do these dodgey people actually wake up and face the day as frauds??

I DO believe in what I'm selling i.e. advertising, which I write for the client myself. But after just a week in the job, in today's economy, I DO feel like trash calling struggling businesses up and pretending I'm offering to HELP. It does feel money hungry and soul-destroying, whereas before getting into it, I thought of it as a way of helping local businesses do well and using my writing ability for a good cause. I sometimes need a shake into reality, so thanks. You're right SillyB. I do need to get a backbone. I have a habit of running away when I feel victimised. I can't raise the issue of commission theft with a higher boss, as the woman who has done it OWNS the business. I should've known better after she put her name to work I wrote myself in the past. I think sometimes I have a fairy tale storybook mentality where I think the world's this fair place and people are kind to each other - which is a crock!I've even worked for charities with selfish, greedy people, who, it turns out, were only there to feather their own nest. My boss being the worst. She had absolutely no empathy for people in need, but was always the first to comment to media about any good that the charity did. Even though she was responsible for bullying out half the staff because she had an obsession with control and power. She was the kind who would walk over a dying woman on the street if no one was watching!Anyways, enough rambling. It's just the hypocracy everywhere. Why do people PRETEND to be these good people. I have more respect for those that are in-your-face a**holes - at least they aren't pretending to be something they're not.Sorry. Thanks so much. You've given me plenty of great advice - all three of you. Thank you.

I think what you are truly saying is " I need another line of work". I agree. You need to leave sales. Its making you a bitter and unhappy person.
Further, you need to get a backbone. You should NOT let anyone (even your boss) steal from you. Time to speak up...even speak to a higher up boss above your immediate boss. What happened was unacceptable.
YOu need to learn to set boundaries for yourself and be very protective of yourself when people cross them. IN a very political way put them in their place by communicating your dissatisfaction.
But, if I were you I'd be looking to transition somewhere else. It just doesn't suit your personality OR make you a happy person.
Good luck hun!

Your country was built on this kind of thing, taking everything from everyone else to make yourself rich and killing those who refused to give it to you.
Why would they give a crap about you and your life when you represent easy money?
OP you're not a 'good' person you're a pushover. Being 'good' in this society means succeeding, money is god. If you want to be good then you should have chosen a career that does good, scientist, teacher, doctor, nurse etc. Not sales. Sales is the most cut throat business there is. Not only that OP but you're just as bad as those people you hate. You're going around trying to sell people shit they don't even need, to make money for yourself. You're going around telling people they need it, trying to convince them to buy whatever worthless piece of crap you're selling. Yet you say you're a person that likes to live in their means? Then why are you in such a soul sucking, money leeching business as sales?
I worked in sales for a year. I once convinced a one armed woman that the manual blender I was selling her was perfect for her just to make a buck, don't think for one second what you're selling or why you are selling it is any better than that because it's not. You work on commission and will do anything for a sale, yet when your boss takes credit for that you let her walk all over you? You're not suited for sales OP. You're just a pawn in their money making game, not only that but the very act of going out there and selling that shite to people that are probably broke, something they don't need just to make money goes against everything you state you believe in. How do you sleep at night knowing that's what you do for a living? You see your job is to use poor suckers that fall for your pitch to make yourself a buck, how is that any better than stealing? Because they can say no? That's bullshit, I worked sales, I know exactly how it works and most people are suckers for the right pitch.
At the end of the day OP, you'd want to take a good look in the mirror because frankly you're just as bad as those motivated by greed because that's the essence of sales, greed. You do for a living the exact thing you say you hate and I don't care what product or service you sell or how much you believe it is a good product. If people needed it then there'd be no need for you to go out and sell it because they'd buy it themselves.
"I've been running all over the city this past fortnight trying to clock up any sale I can" You see? You too don't care what effect buying your crap has on people. You don't care if that person has massive financial difficulties, you want your sale and that's it. If you do care OP then you're in the wrong business and you'll never be successful at this. A good sales person will do anything to make money.
I was good at it because I didn't give a crap, I'd sell arsenic to children to make buck when I was doing sales because no matter the product, the very idea of trying to manipulate people into buying whatever you're selling is just wrong, so either do it and make the most money you can while not giving a damn. Or go find a job that actually contributes something good to this world, instead of leeching money from people.
