Does alcohol really make men lose their erection?

Question - (2 June 2012) 5 Answers - (Newest, 3 June 2012)
A female United Kingdom age 51-59, anonymous writes:

Ok, does alcohol have that much affect on guys performance? Never had a bloke keep going soft on me before, ever. He said he has some viagra that he sometimes uses for when he's been drinking, but we didn't use it this time. I have had guys take aaaages when drunk, but not keep going soft?

Is it that he isn't really attracted to me?

We have got together before and he hadn't been drinking that time and it was fine. But it was dark!

I'm not ugly, size 12, had my hair nice etc.

Ego a bit dented I think as I always got results before, he had to finish himself off in the end after a chat break, which was part of the action plan anyway (we had discussed previously) but even so...

Any thoughts?

DoubleM agony auntYes, alcohol certainly can affect erectile ability, especially the older we get. When I was much younger, I could drink plenty of beer and still stay hard as a rock. Now in my 60s, and beginning perhaps 10 or 15 years ago, too much beer does affect erection. so I try to back-off the beer if anticipating an evening of pleasure with a girlfriend.

Basschick agony auntYes it does affect their winkie and if he is over 50 his winkie is on thin ice anyhow, much less with alchol. Give him another chance without the booze and see if things go better but don't say anything about being disappointed (that's a sure winkie-killer)

I'll have to defintely agree with what C.Grant wrote to you! It's probably him (your b/f) that the problem. But ya, he should be aware not to mix alchol with the viagra or anything else for that matter. I've only tried Viargara or one of those types of things once & swore I'd never do it again. He needs to be aware of the side effects too. One of the side effects I had was that it gave me a rapid heart beat. I was very afraid that it could have given me a heart attack. Wishing you the best of luck!

A male reader, C. Grant Canada +, writes (2 June 2012):

C. Grant agony auntYou can generally get away with it when you're young, but by middle age alcohol is definely not a guys friend in the bedroom. It absolutely gets in the way. If he can perform sober, then it could very well be the drink and not you that's the problem.

For the record, it's also a very bad idea to mix Viagara and its cousins with excess alcohol.
