I just had my first little girl two weeks ago.
Most hopsitals save the C-section for a last resort. I don't THINK you can choose to have a C-section unless something is wrong with you or the baby. You would have her aske her doctor.
Labor and delivery is different for everyone. I was scared out of my wits, but it was really not that bad. They have medications you can take that will ease the pain, they work trust me They gave me a shot of nubain, and I took a nap in the middle of labor ;) They can also give you an epidural, which doesnt hurt as bad as everyone says(at least not for me) it feels like a bee sting. once it goes int effect, You don't feel a thing, which makes it very ahrd to push. You need to know that ceratin medication can have and efect on the unborn child (nothing too bad just decreaed alertness and stuff like that)It can have the same effect on your baby as it does on you. If you are palnnig to breastfeeed it can also have and efect on you milk production.
If you would like to know anything else email me.
Tell your cousin Good luck.

Hi I remember when I was at school watching a birthing video, and came away thinking I am never gonna have a baby because the image of a woman giving was like a scene from a horror movie. Ten years later I gave birth to my son who is 19 and eighteen months later my daughter 17. Both of my children's births were quick and had no stitches. I shudder at the very idea of having my womb cut open to give birth to a child, simply because it is quick and convenient. Women who have caesarean ops, are in more pain and have a slower recovery than women who give birth naturally. I am so glad I gave birth to my children naturally and not have caesarean births. If your cousin is scared at the thought of giving birth, she can have a talk with her midwife of various pain relief eg gas and air, epidural etc. Hope my advice helps.

A C section as it is known in the uk is usually something that only happens if there are serious problems with the birth or certain health reasons.
Reasure your cousin that a natural birth is not as bad as it is portrayed on tv etc.
There are many drugs availble to ease the pain, epidural and pethodine. Also the famous gas and air.
Not all labours last long hours some can be over with in seconds and you can be out of the hospital the day after.
With a C section you will be in for 3 days at least, there are chances of infection adn not to mention scarring.
Also once out of hospital she will find it difficult to do the simple things.
When i had my little boy who is now 4 i was only 19 and yes very scared.
I was in labour for 21 hours and i have to admit that after 2 full doses of pethodine adn gas and air i hardly felt any pain.
I was up walking about the next day. I wont lie there was some discomfert but nothing that i couldnt deal with.
Wish her good luck and i hope everything goes smoothly for her.

A Cesarean Section is major surgery and here in the US they only perform it if the mother can't deliver vaginally for some reason. Tell your friend that it takes much longer to recover from the surgery than it does to recover from a vaginal birth. She can possibly get an epidural for the pain and that makes the birth almost a walk in the park. Tell her to discuss her fears with her doctor, I'm sure he/she can alleviate some of her concerns.

Everybody has the choice on how they would like to give birth, unless there are complications.
Firstly, it is totally normal for your cousin to be scared of the birth. It is a wonderful yet painful experience, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
Cesarean isn't sore while they are performing it because of anesthesia but the wound is sore afterwards, and it takes some time to heal. Likewise giving natural birth - it is very sore while you are in labour, but the pain subsides faster after the birth. There are many ways of natural birth. I had an epidural with vaginal birth, and didn't feel a thing. I tore though, and they had to cut, so i had stitches afterwards, but the pain was really not that bad. To explain - toothache is worse.
Speak to somebody at a clinic about her various options, and choose the one she is most comfortable with.
All and all - the pain is Not that bad afterwards, and the joy of a baby overrules all pain.
Good luck (to your cousin)
