I don't think it's just women at all. I think men do it too. What I believe is that we now live in a world where confidence is pretty low, for both certain men and women. And low confidence is what leads people to take abusers/cheats etc back over and over again.
I've seen women on this site and in real life all take back cheats for second, tird, fourth and fifth times - on the basis that they simply haven't got enough confidence to say no, or because they believe that somehow a man can make their lives better. And I've seen men do the same thing with women.
There are a lot of people with low confidence - that's the problem. If someone hasn't the confidence to believe they're worth more, then they will always give leeway, always make excuses and always take someone back. Those with confidence, or those who find it and make a real effort walk free of abusers.
