A male reader, anonymous, writes (9 February 2007):

I do not think that people become gay or bi later in life. I think more likely they were not ready to come out or supressed that part of them.

This is not to say that one can not choose to experiment or explore their sexuality at a later stage in life.

i Don't agree, i'm gay and the thought of being with a woman gives me shivers :S Maybe what happened to you was, the fact that you knew you where gay all the time and you just kept pushing it away or ignore it all this time, hence now maybe you decided to take a step forward and explore it. Or else you're simply one of the many bisexuals, but ignored your homosexuality side of our sexuality since now, i wouldn't believe you telling me that you had never fantasized of being with another guy in your past...because things don't change so sudden.

willywombat agony auntYeah, I believe so. As we mature I think we very often become much more open minded and mature in attitude towards sex and sexuality. Things we may not have accepted in our teens become a little more routine and acceptable. We start to accept ourselves (in many cases) fro who we actually are, instaed of playing the role society wants us to play.

Well, it's just an opinion.

Aunt Charlene agony aunthiya! i can say that it is true men and women can change their ssexulity, i like to think that anything is possible, i know one of my friends she was happily in love with a man, was engaged had a kid with him, then had a drunken night with a female friend and now theyve been going out for about 2yrs and are engaged.you may have had mixed sexual thoughts earlier in life especially at puberty, the messeges we subconciously give out to those were attracted to are quite similar to the vibes we give out to our friends, when the brain recalls these messeges and the vibes returned they can be mixed and we could have a sexual dream about something we might not want to do or something we would like to do but cant live it out.sexuality can change at any point in time. no one is strictly 110% straight or gay.
