No it doesn't matter as long as you get to know the person better. Some of the "prettiest" people I know aren't what most would consider attractive but there personalities are so wonderful to me that their inner selfs just shine forward. My latest crush (or lust) when i first met him didn't find him attractive, but there's something about him and his personality that pulls me towards him.
Not sure if that helped but, it makes since to me.

 I think if you keep your appearance nice (Clean clothes/body, hair brushed, shaved or facial hair kept neat..etc.) and you are considerate, kind, patience, caring...etc. (Being a gentleman in other words.) Then THAT is what matters.

But what a girl wants is the whole package , for you to be well rounded in all aspects of life, so get a makeover, haircut make some changes, girls like (guy guys) and confidence, don't be shy be cool. You can do it. Look good, smell good, dress cool,have nice teeth, take care of yourself, work out, get a good male role model. I am sure you are smart and have some good qualities.... There is someone out there for everyone. And I know some girl thinks your hot, just make eye contact and say hi, If you say your cool to yourself people will see you that way..
