You said that you started having heavy bleeding. OK, but how can you be certain that you had a miscarriage? Did you see any evidence of that, or did you just see blood? Bleeding in pregnancy is of course abnormal, but does not always mean that you miscarried. You would need an internal scan to confirm that the pregnancy ended.

Some woman have bleeding in pregnancy, even heavy bleeding and still carry their babies to term. I would suggest that you contact your doctor as soon as possible. Good luck.

DrPsych agony auntI am very sorry you had a miscarriage, I have suffered two and totally understand that your hormones are probably all over the place right now! Generally there is no need to go to your doctor unless you have signs of an infection (on-going pains, discharge etc). It may well take a while for your body to get back to normal. Next time you do see your doctor you may wish to mention what has happened. If you have recurrent miscarriages then you would need to be investigated for reasons why this is happening. In my case I have medical conditions which make pregnancy difficult - but obviously not impossible as I have a son! I didn't see a doctor the second time I miscarried because I knew what was happening and didn't feel the need for intervention.

I would say you need to tell your boyfriend what has happened. If the pregnancy was unplanned then you both need to discuss contraception.
