And they reckon its painful...Is it true cuz ive always wondered how can you be with your guy friends all day or be at school or college with guys and never notice when they have one?

yeah we can get a few erection throughout the day. but we are highly skilled at hiding it, and we hone those skills daily. most of the time we can't help it, it just happens. so yes, if we can't stand up and fail to give a convincing reason, talk to us about something boring and you should find we can stand up properly again!
it doesn't hurt. if a guy friend has mentioned pain then all i can think of is that sometimes if we masturbate too much, it can 'throb' a bit. but that could just be me....

yea we can have a lot of erections per day, but I never counted. It only depends on what we think about and/or which situations we go in ! It does not hurt though, as long as my underwear is big enough to cover it all (hitting my zipper with an erection can be painful because of the increased sensibility).
And like another poster says, we quickly learn how to hide it all and lose it at will.

Some days it's none, some days it's 12. But I don't usually get them in public and if I do, I hide them well xD But they don't hurt and if they do it's only cause im wearing tight trousers.

We do some times have them but their not full erection so they don't stick out as much rather than if we were fully turned on, also no they are not painful at all. Most of the time it is excitment or something softly touches the peins which makes the blood go to it and make it erect

 Depends on the guy and depends on his age and just depends on the day. Sometimes, sure, a guy can get five or ten in a day, but other days he could go an entire day without any at all.
It's not painful at all, even if it lasts a little while before going away. It can be embarrassing, but guys get good at hiding them so usually no one will know, and we all learn pretty quickly how to get rid of an unwanted erection so it won't need to be hidden for long before it goes away.
When I was in high school and college, I think I got maybe three or four a day. I'm 25 now and get about two, unless I'm around a lot of attractive women acting sexually, then obviously more.
