 You need to stop thinking so much and just do. If you want to lick his nipples then do it. If he doesn't like it, he'll tell you, and you don't have to do it again, no biggie.
Whenever I have sex with a new partner I always try tons of different things to find out what he/she likes and hates. I learned that men like it a bit rougher than girls, girls need to be treated gently, haha! Men on the other hand you can scratch and nibble and bite and if there's a bit of blood they're still fine.
They all like different things, it really depends on the person. My boyfriend loves that I nibble or lick his nipples, but he's the only guy I've been with who enjoyed that.
