i have a girlfriend. i am in a relationship for the past 1 year. we started speaking of sex and all for quite some time now. initially she would tell me that she loved someone else and had slept on the arm of her classmate in d school while in class. but now she says all that was made up.

she refused that she ever masterbated. but today she told me that she did once two years back. i askaed if she imagined a boy and then masterbated but she refused.

is it at all possible for a girl to masterbate without imagining a boy?

person12345 agony auntAnyone can masturbate to anything they like. Some people masturbate thinking of people they know, some masturbate thinking of celebrities, some think of scenarios not involving anyone in particular, some just enjoy the feeling. I'd imagine she's just feeling guilty for having done it all. I don't think she was hiding it because she was thinking of something terrible. I don't think you'll be able to find someone who has never masturbated and who has never masturbated thinking of someone else.

A female reader, CindyCares Italy +, writes (8 March 2011):

CindyCares agony aunt Of course women can masturbate without thinking of a specific man ! They don't need to think anything particular-,in fact thinking of some specific episode or scene may even kill the mood and distract you from savouring the physical sensation.

I think your gf was sincere. But, suppose she WERE thinking of somebody ? maybe a famous actor or singer or something. So ? Is that any of your business ? Are you entitled to know every thought that passed through her mind 2 year ago !, so before becoming your girlfriend ? Why would you think that ?

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (8 March 2011):

Tisha-1 agony auntWomen can masturbate without thinking of a specific person. Sometimes there's not any thought involved, just physical stimulation. Private times like that aren't really for anyone else to know about.

Please don't turn into one of the mind-police, who believe they have a right to know every single thought that's ever crossed someones mind, and then judge them for it. Stop trying to come up with things to be jealous about. Just drop it, acknowledge that she has a right to her own privacy of thought, okay? Don't be a controlling insecure man, that is most unattractive.

A male reader, Capri2 Argentina +, writes (8 March 2011):

Well. I guess that is possible, in the first place, if the girl is bisexual or homosexual. Or even if she's heterosexual she could get turned on by thinking of a situation and of a particular person. Like thinking of two people having sex. Yet, there will be a boy involved yet, but not only a boy.

Anyway, your girlfriend tells you something and later she denies it. So, you can't take what she tells you seriously.

And why do you mind about this, anyway? Do you reckon she may have masturbated thinking about her classmate. Let me tell you something, the chances that your girlfriend will masturbate thinking of you only, are very low. And that's only normal. Even if you two have sex, she will likely masturbate thinking about other people. Statistically speaking.

A reader, anonymous, writes (8 March 2011):

Masturbation is entirely normal and nothing to which any sense of shame should be attached. We all do it, don't we?

When people (male and female) masturbate their minds can be filled by many thoughts, including people with whom they are in a relationship, or some fantasy figure or activity.

The wonderful, and liberating, thing about masturbation is that we can let our minds "go a bit crazy" because, you see, it is all in the mind, fantasy.

So, stop interrogating this poor girl. What she does and who she thinks of is none of your business. Just as what you do and who you think of is none of hers.

Enjoy life and stop worrying!

A male reader, john1242 United States +, writes (8 March 2011):

john1242 agony aunthello dear,

i just wonder how can someone just mastubate without thinking of someone. mastubation is basically to fulfill your desire for sex, which is only done with someone so if one is mastubating then there has to be someone about whom she thinks. just take it in this way dear, have you ever mastubated without thinking about someone. There must be some reason why she is not telling it to you.
