A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I have a crush on my cousin and i'm not sure what to do. I'm feeling pretty depressed at the moment, as there was a family party last weekend, and unfortunately, i couldn't go to it because i went to London the week before last, and i'm going away again soon so i couldn't afford to go, as i would have needed a hotel room if i had gone to the party. So i'm feeling really down because i know he went there and i really wanted to see him again. I saw him at my brother's wedding about a couple of months ago and during the reception, we danced together during one song, and as we were dancing, he asked me if i had a man in my life !. I said no and he said " no ?! ", as if he sounded surprised. But he didn't say anything else about it after that, so i'm not sure if he has the same feelings as i do or not. Later in the evening, his mum told me that she thought i looked beautiful, and his dad bought me a drink. At one point, he was stood at the side of me when we were stood near the bar and he was leaning his arm against the bar, so it sort of looked like he had his arm round me but he didn't, if you get what i mean . Do you think that body language could have meant anything ?. He also told his mum that he had asked me earlier in the evening if i had a man in my life. His mum asked if i did and i said no and she said i should have a boyfriend. Do you think that could have meat anything ?.

It's a shame because we don't live close to one another. We are on each other's friend's lists on facebook, and i'm wondering whetehr to ask him if he enjoyed the party last weekend, and say i wished i could have been there, and i'd like to ask him if he'd like to meet up sometime, whenever possible, but i dont want to come on too strong. What do you think ?. Before i saw him this year, i hadn't seen him for 6 years, and i don't want it to be years until i see him again.

Indie23 agony auntThis crush is seriously not appropriate and I don't think your cousin likes you romantically. I have several older male cousins and they treat me exactly like this and there is absolutely nothing romantic going on between us.

I think the reason you like him is because you haven't seen him for a long time so in your head he isn't like your cousin anymore. You see him as a man, instead of how you should be seeing him, which is as a relative.

What I suggest you do is sit down and look through family photographs of you and him as kids and remember things you guys did together when you were little. Try to make your brain see him as a relative.

I would also suggest not seeing him for a while, at least until you think your crush has gone away a bit, otherwise you're probably going to embarrass him and yourself. I hope everything works out for you and you can meet someone that you can really be involved with.

Indie.

i would say go for it start off with asking him how was the party went and go from there. i never thought my cousin had the same exact feelings that i had for him all our life until recently when i went to chicago and i saw him we let our feelings out and it was beautiful. now im moving to chicago to be with him no matter what people say
