writes: How would you know if a lower abdominal muscle was damaged?basically I have tenderness and sometimes get sharp pains in left lower part of my stomach. Some days it will be worse than others and I can feel a swelling. I went to the doctor and got sent for an ultrasound scan to check my ovaries and the results came back normal so its nothing to do with them. This has been going on for about 3 months now, since having sex. Could it be muscle damage caused by strain? im getting pretty fed up with it now :(

Unfortunately we are not doctors and cannot diagnose you over the internet. If it's not your ovaries, then it could be anything ranging from bad gas to an ectopic pregnancy. You should get yourself to a doctor, or maybe a different doctor.

Hi there. The scan showed nothing wrong with your ovaries. That's good news. If there were any cysts, they would have shown up.
Do you get constipated? If you did have problems there, you would definitely get some pains in your lower abdomen.
You don't say that you are pregnant - you would know if you were.
(1) You would have missed a period or maybe two.
(2) You then would have done a pregnancy test and had it confirmed.
If you were pregnant, it could be an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic means the fertilized egg is in the fallopian tube and is growing there - instead of in the womb (uterus), as it should.
Is your abdomen growing bigger? Typically, an ectopic pregnancy would be on one side, as you have a left and right fallopian tube and ovaries on both sides at the end of each of them.
Was the scan done 3 months ago, or more recently?
If it was 3 months ago, you need to go back to your doctor again to get it checked out more thoroughly.
When you say at the bottom of your stomach, do you mean your stomach - which is between the gap in your ribs (above your belly button), or is it much lower down near your groin? The groin is where you bend your leg, at the hip joint. If the swelling is there, it's possible that it's a hernia. A hernia can be repaired with a simple surgical procedure.
In any case, you must go back to your doctor and have this further investigated. Don't delay it any longer.
With every test your doctor runs on you, each time you are getting closer to finding what the problem really is. It narrows it down. Don't give up on it while ever the pain and swelling is still there. It's reminding you that you haven't found the problem yet. Once the problem is found, then it will be a very short time before you can relax and enjoy life (without pain), once again. Don't put up with it any longer.
Please don't wait. We are talking about your health here. Without good health, we have nothing.
I hope this is helpful to you. Take care and best wishes.
