reader, anonymous, writes (10 December 2007): Abortion is not even something that should be considered unless the baby will be born still-born either way. Or be born terminally ill. Those are the only reasons I can use to justify it. And they are pretty flimsy too.
Don't listen to the previous poster. It is a detriment, to be sure, but these days there are programs in the schools to help girls in your situation.
My sister was 17 when she first got pregnant, and she is getting married to a very nice man and has 4 children now at 27. They each are wonderful kids.
So as long as you find a way to balance your studies with motherhood, there is no reason why you can't have your cake and eat it too.
Now, not knowing the age of consent in your city, it is possible he can go to jail if it's 18. If it's 16, like it is in my country, then he will not.
He deserves to know he has a son/daughter. Too many women don't understand that half of that child is the father. And ergo he has as much right to be in the child's life as the mother.
Hope I haven't scared you too much. Just be strong and you'll come through okay.

 Nevermind if you could go to jail or not, you should not be having a baby at your age. In fact it's ridiculous. What is it these days with young girls? You're a child having a child. Do you even understand what will happen to your body when you do have the baby? Do you realise the effects of pregnancy on girls that are too young? I knew a girl who had a baby when she was 16 and because of her age her body wasn't ready for it. She wasn't able to use her legs for over a month because she damaged the nerves in both of them. There is a reason for laws. Not just to be mean but for your health and safety. You should be enjoying your body right now instead of wanting to carry another one around with you. If you and your boyfriend are serious then it doesn't matter when you have a baby, have something to look forward to!! Right now you should be enjoying eachother. Having a baby will put so much pressure on your relationship, you might not even get through it. Please just think seriously before you do this. It is probably the worst idea for a girl of your age in your situation. Enjoy and practice SAFE SEX!!
