A female India age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I had protected sex with my partner in the 2nd week of jan. Within 12 hours i took an emergency contraceptive pill. within 1 week after this i started getting slight vaginal bleeding from around 14 or 15 of jan.On 26 jan we again had unprotected sex and i did not take any emergency contraceptive pill thinking that the bleeding that was happening was my periods and it is safe during my periods. This slight bleeding along with fatigability with no abdominal cramps continued for around 2 weeks till 29th of jan. On 29 jan i started getting heavier bleeding with abdominal cramps similar to my usual periods. Usually my periods lasts for 6 days. But brown discharge with small clots is still

happening. Today is feb 19 and i have been having bleeding for almost a month continuously now. Is this because of the hormonal imbalance caused by the pill? But still is it normal to bleed for so long? Please help.

R1 agony auntIts always worth seeing a doctor and checking. I've taken the morning after pill a few times myself and never bled after like that, I don't think it has long lasting hormonal affects.

Did you go on any hormonal contraception after such as the implant/coil? that could have caused the bleeding.

At least bleeding is a sign you are not pregnant!

You need to seek a doctors advice pronto, and get some sex ed too. It's not safe to have unprotected sex at ANY time of the month, blood or not. Your period does not make you immune to pregnancy and STIs.

Get on a form of birthcontrol, or use condoms!

Obviously just go to the doctor about the bleeding, and do it soon in case it's serious.

FYI - even on your period, you still need protection to avoid getting pregnant/ diseases.
