Thank you!! You have given the best explanation. I am giving you an 'Excellent' rating for taking the time and the effort to answer this question.
I agree with you, this behaviour insulting. I think there people out there doing this kind of things and thinks that it OK to track your movements by your mobile. They should get a life or move on.
Keep up the good work!!

hi
i have copied and pasted this from an article i found just by googling. i couldn't be bothered to read it properly coz its too technical for me but i hope it helps...
Mobile Phone Tracking Is Explained Here in This Article
So can you really track phones easily? Let me clear some misconceptions. So does it really work? Tracking cell phones is possible and you don’t need to spend that much. It was an impossible feat only a few years ago although it turned into a common trick anyone can pull off.A handful of the good reasons why to take action on this is to make sure your daughter isn’t somewhere she is allowed to go. Or to make sure employees on the road are where they’re supposed to be. The process through which it’s made possible is piggybacking on the phones global positioning system parts. That’s why you can. You must make use of one of two types of technology. An interesting solution consist of using special gadgets you mount within the specific smart phone. Installation isn’t the issue. The issue is the thing is fragile.A more flexible solution is to make use of a surveillance program. This is the most covert method professionals use. Download one on the cell phone and before you know it you got a spy phone on your hands. What’s more there are much more impressive spying abilities the software provides. You will be able to go through their phone book. What’s more the actual phone conversations do not escape it also. If the batteries are out of the cell, it won’t work though. Else you’re good to go.If you are not sure you should be doing this, and know many parents are making use of this capability to keep an eye on their kids. Keep this in mind. You have a right to do this on your own phone. Just do your own research and you’ll uncover what’s OK and what is not. Such monitoring is absolutely dependable considering the GPS network is accurate.Your next step would be to make a decision regarding which product you will take advantage of. It’s up to you to choose wisely, or you could be disappointed with the results. Don’t be overwhelmed with all the solutions. If you just want to track phones , or maybe maybe you wish to have the ability to monitor everything.Provided you make the decision to begin using currently the better software there’s no way you can go wrong. For the reason that it has all the features you could possibly want. Unfortunately most software won’t spy on all aspects of phones. I have been in this market for many years so I think my opinion has weight. After extensive testing I narrowed the suggestions to a handful. If you were to tell me that you want to track phones if you want a great software you should consider a particular monitoring program called spy bubble, and you can’t go wrong with it.
i think its worrying that the boyfriend tracked her whether she was guilty or not. he obviously doesn't trust her and if she is innocent she should feel very insulted by his behaviour. to me its a dumping offence

You can do it with an iPhone using the 'find my iphone' feature. All you need is someones apple login:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/find-my-iphone.html
There are some 3rd party apps for Android that can do something similar I heard, though I haven't used them.

Not sure what your talking about here. The only phone I no you can ping from in the UK is Blackberry. Maybe its a different network system over here.
I don't think it has anything to doing with 'hiding' as you mention. Am sure when you wouldn't want someone mapping your every move!
Thanks Olderthandirty!

All the big brands can, do and will admit its possible. Its been possible to track people even before the advent of mobiles.
Certainly the more recent phones (within the past 6 years) can indeed do it very easily indeed. With the power inside that little box of tricks you wonder what it cannot do instead!.
You think about it this way, my partner and myself are both complete geeks, very loyal and trustworthy. We find it highly amusing sometimes when we track each other and send a relevant text to that place. Especially when he should be out shopping and hes sat in the park lol
I am part of a mobile company (so its a good question to ask me indeed). Frankly, I wouldn’t worry AT ALL, unless you indeed have something to hide. The only two to worry about is if you are committing a crime or adultery.

It's an urban myth! You have GPS capability and if your phone is on you can be traced by tower "pinging" You've seen it on TV shows over and over. If you want to "hide" turn your phone off and leave it home.

Its not about hiding anything. We are talking about adults here!! If you suspect someone was doing that to you, what would you do? Would you feel comfortable with it? Or would you not think why is this person spying on you all the time!
I pretty most people will not feel comfortable about someone tracking their every move....
It live in the Uk, I don't know what they do in your country. Am not sure if the phone company support tracking on your mobile phone.
I would like to know if anyone in the UK has this done to them and how do you stop it

I still would like to know how its done.
I wonder if this has happen to other people? You read about bugging in the media all the time.
I suppose she wasn't paranoid then.
I will advise to put a lock on her phone.
Thank you Yos

Yes it can be done. It very much depends on what phone you have. Software can be installed on your phone that allows someone to find its location from a pc.
The main thing you can do to prevent it is to have a lock on your phone and make sure no one else knows it. And for an Android phone / iPhone make sure you have a secure username & password for your gmail / iTunes accounts that no one knows.

Unless you have something to hide, i see no reason to worry. But to answer your question yes i 'think' its possible depending on ones ability to access info from your service provider bearing in mind such info isnt open to scrutiny by any1 from the public
