It depends where you are, and your age. However, in most countries doctors are bound by medical confidentiality - certainly in the UK you can get the contraceptive pill from a family planning clinic and request that your attendance not be sent to your family GP. However, you should also be aware that your family GP records are confidential and your doctor would not be able to discuss your medicines with anyone else like your family for instance. There are plenty of good reasons for the GP to be aware of you taking the pill - if you had an accident that required surgery it would be helpful for the hospital to know from your GP, you should get an annual check up on the pill and the GP/ nurse can do this and the GP should know so s/he doesn't prescribe other medicines to you without giving you advice first (for example, antibiotics knock out the effects of the pill). You also would need to set up repeat prescriptions at your GP clinic to keep taking the pill to save the bother of going back to the family planning clinic every time you wanted a packet of tablets.

yes you can get the pill anonymously by going to your local family planning clinic they don't tell your family GP either as it's all confidential
