My period was supposed to come around this week and hasn't shown. Needless to say, I miss Aunt Flo and am rather worried. I've been spotting a little. Can the shot stop your period right from the first time you take it? Or did I just achieve what I was trying to prevent and become pregnant? Please, can anyone share their experiences on this with me?

Well, I have found the cheap ones work just as well as the more expensive ones. Trust me I've used lots and lots of them between 10 pregnacies and 7 years and counting of menopause. Shoulda bought stock in the company.... ;)

And I was so sorry to hear about the bad experiences :( I think I shall embrace the pill. But, I'm still a bit nervous. Please, what's the best/most accurate test out there?

Ahh depo shots work in mysterious ways..
My mum was on the depo shot for 6 years and never had a period! (Lucky!)
However, when I had mine I constantly bled for 3 months!!
The ONLY way to find out is with a test. However, I suspect it will be negative as the depo shot stops ovulation as soon as it is released into the blood stream.

The depo shot has been known to stop periods, even within the first month or so of receiving it, but i think you should take a pregnancy test anyway, just to make sure. I doubt you are pregnant, it's probably your bodies reaction to receiving the shot.

I used to be on Depo and never had a period the whole time, just occasional spotting. ( No collateral effects either ).
But it is not the rule, in fact for most people it takes 2-3 months for periods to disappear. So, better take a pregnancy test.

Every girl's body varies, some have no period, others have next to nothing, some bleed for the whole 3 months, and myself I bled for the whole last month. The Depo shot takes 7 days to take affect in your body..and you had sex in that 7 day window. I would take a pregnancy test, or get to the gyno so they can give you a blood test.

I got my first depo shot ever back in July. I didn't get my period, I had spotting throughout the first 3 months on the first shot. Some girls get an actual period on the depo, other's dont. I didn't, so try not to worry.

I don't know the exact effects it has on your body and how long it takes to work as I've never had it, but I've not heard the best storied about it... I know 5 people who have been on it, all of them had a constant period while on it. I'd suggest trying a different form of birth control once the effects of the shot have worn off.

You may not want to hear my experience because it was a horrible one. I skipped the first month completely, and then Aunt Flo visited for over 6 weeks. I called the doctor and she acted like it was perfectly normal. :( I also gained 30 pounds that it had taken me a year to lose. Although the shot is only supposed to be effective for 3 months, they told me it could cause havoc in my body for up to a year. Fortunatly it didnt. Good luck hon
