The bank or lender will have to go by just your income alone, not including your wife's income, if you're planning on purchasing another place on your own(a non-joint mortgage), so if you make alot of money, you might be able to do it.

If you have the money to, yes. You must have the money to cover all payments though, and you will need a large deposit.
