You are both at the LEGAL age but by the sound of your question you are not at the EMOTIONAL age for sex as you sound very immature and naive. If you are worried about getting pregnant there are 2 options:
DONT HAVE SEX
OR
Use PROTECTION.
Take care xXx

If you don't want to get pregnant then use contraception. If you don't and end up with an unwanted pregnancy then you'll have a lot more to consider than just mom's reaction.

Well you're both over the legal age in the civilised world (UK, maybe USA too:-P) so there's nothing he can get in trouble with... Except maybe with your mum...

Depends on your nationality. Most countries say that sex at 16 is okay. Your mom might not agree with that though! In the Western world both of you are old enough to either buy contraception (condoms) or get a prescription from a doc. Use them. Every time. And get checked regularly. If you feel old enough for sex you should see an OB/GYN every 6 months for non-specifics like thrush, candida etc. You mom doesn't have to know about that.
