Hello!

Dan’s (hubby) feeling a bit bloated at the mo.

He’s been very flatulent for nearly a year, big deep horrible trumps.

Very unpleasant to the ear and nose.

Last Saturday, he came out of lav in such a state, went to look and his brown stuff was all watery a light brown in colour and there were little bits in the dish. I had to clean up his mess and comfort him at the same time – he was crying he’s eyes out saying that he felt incredibly dizzy.

I think it might be diarrhoea but wouldn’t he be going all the time?

Maybe it was a one off kind of thing – needed to clean his insides out.

I suggested if going to the doc but he says that it doesn’t feel that serious.

And he always seems to have indigestion all the time.

Can anyone please suggest any illnesses that have these symptoms or anything that can cure indigestion?

Many thanks!

Liz

What symptoms could you possess if you did have it?

Could you possibly provide any sites that are concerned with this illness?

I would seriously urge him to see a doctor. It could well be coeliac disease, an allergy to gluten in food. It is estimated that 1 in 100 people have it in the UK. My father and uncle have it and I am currently under investigation for it. It can cause uncontrollable diarrhoea. It can be extremely distressing for those who have it. If left untreated, I am led to believe it can cause bowel cancer.

hlskitten agony auntHi

Possibly IBS. Very common. But needs to be diagnosed by a professional. Causes terrible bloating. My other half had the bloating for months and he even got it worse after just drinking a cup of tea not just food!

Not sure to this day why it stopped after a few months but i guess stress and worrying about it, actually makes it worse.

Quick trip to the Gp i would say. Just being told its nothing serious can ease the symptoms of IBS a massive amount!

This question isn't all to do with excrement or excretory functions!

I know men have personal habits or traits like flatulence but this is serious.

Normal “farts” don’t sound as bad as this – he’s ones are like a fvcking musical instrument – he could play in the LPO if he wanted to.

I should of made myself clear in writing this … he didn’t feel dizzy when he did his stuff but he felt calm and relaxed and at the time he called out and asked me if I could turn the radio on to Classic FM because it would make the stuff come out easier.

Phil, you’re just an old fart!

This is a real problem – I have to live with him.

Cheers to all who responded with many helpful tips.

He does get stomach cramps but I don’t know about the emotionally upset bit.

… Maybe it would be wise to see a doc but he’s too ‘afraid’.

I think you are treating a grown man like a child? Checking his toilet matter is a little over the top don't you think? Get a grip (or do I mean gripe) woman!

A scatological question, this one. I can't help but wonder if you're having a laugh, but here goes anyway!

Farting for a year? Is that all? I've been farting all my life! He was probably crying because the gas got in his eyes, or he thought the tunes he was playing were hilariously funny - or so painful that either way it brought tears to his eyes.

Diarrhoea. If when he 'went' he had something resembling a flock of pigeons flying from his arse into the bowl he might have suffered a rapid drop in blood pressure which could certainly make him dizzy.

Indigestion cures - Rennies and other over-the-counter stuff, a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water, Andrews Liver Salts.

Food rich in fibre causes flatulence. Baked beans, breakfast cereals like weetabix and muesli for instance, along with onions, garlic, leeks, brussels sprouts and cabbage all have a similar effect. Certain beers, like Caffreys and Guinness work quite well, but the most effective product I've ever come across is Batchelors Beanfeast - 'beef & onion style' soya mince in a packet. Once that goes through his system it'll come out the other end smelling like burning rubber. That'll really make everyones eyes water and it's excellent fare for a dinner party - but throw a few kidney beans in it and give it a sophisticated name. Give it 30 minutes to work and then amuse yourself watching people pretending to cough.

Tisha-1 agony auntI think you'll probably hear this advice from most of the 'aunts' here: get him to the doctor.

In the meantime, you could have a look at this website for some more information:

Well it does sound like it was just diarrhea. But anytime anything arises different with your body without you having changed your habits much, then I would be a bit concerned and get an evaluation at the doc.

But it could be absolutely nothing. It could be nerves. Is he real nervous? Or have his eating habits changed? I think it's probably IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). That's what it sounds like. The doc will give you medicine for it. I don't know much about IBS, but make an appointment and find out.

And I don't mean to scare you but sometimes more serious conditions can lead to stomach irregularities, like cancer. For now, have him eat lots of yogurt and probiotic supplements cause that will help with digestion and may relieve his symptoms.
