Hey sweetness,
the best you can do is to not make him feel silly for being so broken up over the loss of his dog. When my dog died, I was devastated and felt really silly for reacting so poorly. It truly felt like a member of the family died.
He'll get over it soon enough, but make sure you show him nothing but love and support. Ask him how he's doing and send him lots of long distance love. Maybe even make him a sweet "feel better" package (like cookies or new X-Box game or something) and send it to him in the mail.
Be the sweetest you can be, and he'll be thanking you later!
Good luck sweetness (you sound like such a wonderful girlfriend!! He is lucky to have you.),
xx India

I found that the best way to consloe is to let HIM do the venting. "Hey sweetie, you feeling okay? You want to talk, or do you just need some space right now?" If you dont plan to talk to him and you just want to msg him, "Hey babe, just wanted to say I'm sorry, I know this is hard. If you want to talk about it, I'm all ears, or if you just want some time to process this, I'll be here for you. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. I love you". Be supportive. When my step dad was a kid, and he lost his dog, he was so stressed out about it, he started losing his hair! He laughs about it now though, so just be his emotional support system. Good luck.
