Can a vasectomy fail after thirty years?

Tagged as: Health, Pregnancy<< Previous question   Next question >>
Question - (28 December 2010) 2 Answers - (Newest, 30 December 2010)
A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

A man I may be pregnant too claims to have had a vasectomy some thirty years ago.. Is it still possible it is his or is he likely to be lying? He never said this when we slept together in fact he asked if I was on the pill but he said this after I said I was pregnant? The dates would take me to it being him though I did also sleep with my boyfriend that month.

http://www.dearcupid.org/question/i-got-pregnant-from-an-affair-but-lied.html, (27 Dec 2010), I am trying to link your previous question just to give the Aunts a better perspective on your situation.

Why are you so convinced this baby is your lovers. We also spoke about DNA tests to determine paternity. Why not just do this instead of worry about his vasectomy issues.

I was given a date for delivery for my first child, I gave birth 3 weeks later. So there is a likelihood that the baby's father is your bfs.

Have you decided the way forward from this affair. Have you stopped your affair with the married man?

Personally I have not heard of any vasectomy failing, only being reversed.

A male reader, Dalmatian United States +, writes (30 December 2010):

It is very simple to find out if the vasectomy has failed.

Take a sample of his semen to a Dr. and have him look

under a microsope to see if any sperm are present.

It is very unusual for a vasectomy to fail after 30 years.

A DNA test of the baby at birth will settle the issue.
