Ever since the Harry Potter series came to the US when I was only eight, I've been completely obsessed with not only the series and with my ultimate goal to move to England before I hit age twenty-five, but also with the entire British culture. I'm nineteen now, still obsessed with the UK, and now that I'm older and have my sexual feelings, I've also become obsessed with British men (especially the actors whom I see on TV shows I download, movies, etc...). I love my country, but I love the UK even more. How do I alleviate my complete urges to want a bloody British man... and to move to England!? Reply to this Question Share |

I think its pretty normal. I still like them especially Harry's team and I wont miss the next series. But I am working with a lot of British now and get to know them (cause I ask a lot of questions) and now I can say they are just like the other nationalities. But I still like their accent, its very sexy hehe!

Haha, I see that you're down with British slang! Bully for you! ;)
Jason is absolutely right... not only are these feelings normal, but you should pursue your dreams. You might be a little obsessed, but there are healthy obsessions.
I don't see what's wrong with having an attraction to British men, or with an obsession with British culture, or even a desire to move to England.
Have you visited the UK before? You should study abroad in England, if you're in college. That would give you a chance to meet some British friends and experience England first-hand and see how you would like to live there. I imagine some people will say, "How do you know you'd like England if you'd never been there?" I've learned, however, that if you're instinctively drawn to a place... that you will probably fall in love with it.
I am glad that I found your question, because I can relate to what you're saying. I have similar feelings for latin culture. I'm obsessed with Mexico and Spain and always have been (but it's a healthy obsession). Ever since I can remember, I've loved latin culture with my whole heart. I read books about Spain and Mexico and longed to be there, because I felt like I belonged there. I LOVE cumbia dancing (I'm rubbish at dancing) and flamenco music (the guitar comes to me more naturally), speak nearly perfect Spanish, and yes, I am SUPER attracted to latin men.
I pursued my dream and studied abroad in Mexico my last year of college, and it was everything I dreamed it would be. I had a really hard time readjusting to American culture, and I am going to permanently move to a latin country. This fall, I'm finally going to Spain (to study a professional course) and I know I am going to fall in love with Spain, because half my heart is already there.
I'm honestly not sure where I want to live for good... I'm not ready to be "settled" yet. I do know that it's somewhere latin.
I'm not saying that one country is better than the other, but I love latin culture more than any other. It's all relative, the "best" country is the country where your heart is, and it seems your heart is in British culture. Nothing wrong with that! Britain is our friend, and ally after all.
Latin culture is truly where my heart lies... but I do like British stuff too! I'm a Harry Potter fan, too... and I imagine that you like British music. I always loved British blues, Led Zeppelin, and I always thought British accents were rather sexy (think of Hugh Grant or Alan Rickman, lol). And gap year... that's a brilliant tradition (a little more British lingo).
Hey, you say you're a Harry Potter fan. Have you seen this quiz?
http://www.personalitylab.org/tests/ccq_hogwarts.htm
This quiz takes awhile, but I had fun with it.
I'm a big fan of the Harry Potter stories (but I've read them all in Spanish, of course!) and I wondered what house I would be in at Hogwarts. I've taken a couple tests, this particular test put me in Slytherin.
A test in Spanish (www.harrylatino.com) put me in Gryffindor.
If you like British men, and you dream of going to England, then go for it! The fact that you have dreams is a GOOD thing!

the uk isn't all countryside and what you see on tv. there is a massive mix of different races and people here, like in the u.s. some good, some bad. some cities are rough just like the bronx, and you have the suburbs which are ok like where you are. just come over and visit when you get the time, there's lots more than london. but to be honest you probably won't find it that much different to america, just a few old buildings here and there. the uk is very usa these days.and as for guys, well there is also good and bad ones around just like in the us.

I, too, am an American who just loves accents. Stick me in a room with a man with an accent and I just melt. And it doesn't even have to be a foreign accent: New England, southern, it doesn't matter.
Like JasonX, I didn't see any warning words in your post, but just one word of caution: don't make this an obsession that just takes over your life. It's perfectly normal to have such feelings (I've never been outside of North America, but would love to go to the UK and Australia to name a few places) - so pursue your dream and enjoy it.
And I am also a huge Harry Potter fan - can't wait for the new movie to come out :)

I read what you typed and I didn't see even one problem...maybe a little obsessed but who isn't...at least on your level. I don't see how it differs from me loving Asian girlz, or nerds loving video games/anime and wanting to visit Japan. I'm not comparing you to a nerd, but just saying a lot of people have their little thingies.
