Bored and depressed after being dumped!

A female Australia age 36-40, *eccamega writes:

After being dumped cruelly by my ex, I'm trying to focus on other things. I've been really unhappy with my job. Its a dead end job and it bores me to death. The company doesn't promote anyone and there's no other areas that I can switch too. I really wan to get out. I dread going to work everyday. I tried going to a careers counsellor at a TAFE[community college]. But she didn't help at all. She told me just to try anything. But thats what got me in a job that I hate in the first place! Everybody seems to be moving on with their lives. I didn't want to be 23 and still living at home. I'm smart and I really want to do better with my life.

Sounds like it's time for a change. Push yourself to make the tough decisions about your job - maybe even leave the one you have now before you have something else lined up, although if you're unsure what to do then maybe you should look around first and then quit. Try a different careers adviser, they're not all useless. Maybe a job abroad could be a good idea, you'd have to move out of home, it'd be great experience and it'd give you some space
