Before I consult a doctor I'd like feedback from other women about 'the pill'

Hey guys! Any advice will be much appreciated! I'm a little worried. Just as a note, I know I should ultimately consult my doctor, but I would really like other women's advice and experience. I have no one to ask or talk to.

I started new birth control this past month. I went to the gyno and got a new prescription for a pill with lower estrogen because my doctor thought the past pill was making my blood pressure run just slightly high (nothing horribly high, though. a little above normal). She told me to either begin the first day of my period or the Sunday before my period. I got lucky and that weekend I got my period. So, I started the pills then. She told me that, to be safe, I should wait about a week after starting the pill on the day of my period or two weeks from the day a week from my period to avoid pregnancy.

My period lasted like five days while taking the pill. No big deal. I've been on birth control for awhile now. The following week, though, after it went away, my boyfriend and I had sex. We used a condom. We couldn't get into a good position, though. So, he didn't ejaculate and we ended up just performing oral and such. That was the only brief intercourse we had the entire month.

I have been on the inactive pills since Sunday, but no period. I know sometimes it takes a few days to get your period, but I usually have it by now. I'm getting nervous and wondering if I should take a pregnancy test. However, I do know that new pills and hormone levels can cause you to miss a period initially. Being how our sex was protected and he didn't come, it's probably just that, right? Should I be worried?

In the past, when I've been on birth control, I was on it to keep my periods regular, not because I was sexually active. Now that I'm active, I'm freaking out!

This has nothing to do with your birth control.

I've been in your shoes before: doing "iffy" things,, freaking out about delayed periods, and otherwise wondering if you are part of the .01% statistical group that might get pregnant while on birth control and wearing a condom.

My suspicion is that that considering you did everything "right", you are more than likely not pregnant. More than likely you are just late...you just have a case of nerves...you might just be stressed.

If you truly want to be sure, just cut to the chase and get a pregnancy test if you are that curious. No one over the internet can tell you more than you can already find out from a $20 pharmacy purchase. While anecdotal stories over the internet may make you feel better, you would reassure yourself much more by just getting pregnancy test or going to your doctor.

For what it's worth, I've never been pregnant while on the pill at any time...

charliesdevil73 agony auntI know how worrisome it can be to wonder if your are pregnant or not. But, by the way you explained things I doubt your pregnant. To ease your mind, I would take a test and then call a nurse help line after the results. The first thing they will ask is if you think you are pregnant so if you've already taken the test you'll be able to get that out of the way. I know the last time I switched pills my period got all messed up but it went back to normal on the next month.

Honestly, the first part you tried to explain about when you started your pill--way too hard to follow and I'm really not even sure if it's relevant. But you might want to try to explain again when you took your pill. There are usually only two options for starting you pill pack, either the day you start your period OR the Sunday after you start your period, if you start on Sunday you start your first pill then.

If you haven't been on birth control or just to be safe when you start a new type of pill you should still have protected sex the first week.

Anyhow, if you haven't been taking active pills since Sunday, then it is a little odd that you haven't started your period yet. But a lot of the time it depends on the pill and the time you took it, etc. Usually, after my last active pill, I will start that Tuesday or Wednesday. I have started late before--on a Thursday or Friday so it could just be your body adjusting to the new pill. If you want peace-of-mind, take a test if you don't start your period next week, but you're probably fine.
