I am booked in for IVF but have to lose 20kg before I can do it and was advised that we should continue doing what we do on a weekly basis. So now I am wondering if there are any there woman in the same situation as myself who beat all the odds to sucessfully concieve and how they did it? (Beliefs, myths or grandmas remedy) I want to hear the lot and try a few out before I go in for IVF.

I was told to lose 20kg before I can do IVF but the specialist also said it may also contibute to help me ovulate as it may be a reason why the egg is not being released with the extra weight pushing down on the fallopian tubes so I am on an excercise and eating plan. But i wanted read what other people did to concieve.
Taking birth control was another option given to me and I too thought "huh?" I don't want to prevent it and the specialist gave my two options birth control to regulate first or start straight on the clomid as my periods which are also irregular. But given the two choices I of course choose clomid which they stopped me taking after 6 months incase my body starts to reject it because they wnat me to continue it when I lose 20kg. So I am on no medication at the moment and have the full use of my husband 24/7 lol.

As you have been told, 20 kg overweight is significant.
But the good news is there are numerous cases where the girl was overweight, got down to her normal weight, and conceived. She never really needed the meds after all.
And I have never encountered a good explanation for the phenomenon in the medical literature at the university. It is something docs with clinical experience just know.
Frequently simply weight loss is the first line treatment, before the meds and well before ivf.
Good luck.

We had a similar situation. We tried for 3 years also and was told that I wasn't ovulating. I was put on medication called clomid and metformin. I was on for about 5 months and I just gave up. I as so frustrated and depressed, I prayed and I said this is my last round, if this dosen't work I'm not going to do anymore. Well at the end of that month I found out I was Pregnant. 2 days before my birthday. 9 months later we had a beautiful healty little girl.
Thinking I had built in birth control I didn't go on any birth control medication after my daughter was born. When she as about 14 months old, however, I started taking the birth control pill for a couple of months to regulate my period (which has been irregular from the start). when I thought I was regulated I stopped taking the pills. I got pregnant again, this time we wasn't even planning on another one. 9 months later we had a handsome healty little boy.
I believe that me taking the birth control pills which regulated my ovulation and then stopping like I did with no protection caused me to become pregnant. When I went to the fertility center initially, the first thing the doctor did was put me on birth control pills. I thought he was crazy why put me on birth control pills I'm TRYING to get pregnant. But now I see it works.
Please stay strong. I know exactly how it feels to want a baby and not be able to conceive. I felt like less than a woman to not be able to get pregnant when it seemed like everyone around me was popping out kids lift ane right. You are not alone.
Please send me a mail if you want to talk.
