But no!! Blatently not!!!! Got sent to bed at 8.15 the other night and then 8.30 last night!!!!! And the worst thing is...I did nothing wrong!!!!!!That is only the start of how my parents treat me!! They are SO strict! I feel like they still think I'm 9 or something!! Anyway, if you could give any opinions about my question (whats the average bedtime for a 14/15 year old) thenit would be much appreciated!!Thanks xx Reply to this Question Share |

my sister is 14. On a school night she has to go to bed inbetween 9 & 9.30. At the weekend or school holidays she goes to bed whenever she wants.

Well, I'm fifteen, and I usually go to bed at around 9:30, but my parents trust me on this so sometimes it's later. But I have a feeling there is something up here - I thought I was going to bed early! There is injustice in this. You are, what, fourteen at least? You should be getting a little bit more freedom. I mean, I could understand this if you got up at about five or six each morning, but come on!And yes, sleep is good, need sleep, etc, etc, but apparently people who have six to seven hours sleep every night LIVE LONGER than others.

For me it was around 10ish, nowadays as I'm 18 it's whenever I feel like going upstairs. Your parents just sound a little strict but trust me they will mellow soon enough, mine did. In fact, it's the sternest ones who always become the most liberal - look forward to the removal of the much derided curfew!

I'm 17 now and I wouldn't really say I have a bedtime. I just go upstairs when I feel like, as long as I turn everything off when i'm the last one to go to bed! Having said that, AuntAgna I can relate to you, my parents go to bed quite early, they think I should be tucked up in bed by 10pm just because they are! It's not enough to stop me from going to bed late when I don't have to be up the next morning!Btw is it just my parents or do they moan when you lie in the next day? Even when you don't have school/college or it's the weekend!

Yeh it is lights out for me when they send me to bed. But the sad thing is they all go to bed at that time too!!!!!!!! It's like they think I'm like them but I'm totally different and it really gets on my nerves!!!!!

That is pretty early, 8pm, talk to them, ask them for the responsibility of choosing, then to spite them you could go to bed at 8pm by own choice to start with.
Is it like 8.30pm lights out or to your room? That makes a diff like if you can do stuff in your room till later or is it bed?
Talk to them, try and negotiate but for school time 9.30pm sounds good to me, holidays you should be allowed to stay up until you like-but that's just me!
Good luck

I never had a bedtime, it was always my responsibility to handle everything i had to do, and to get sleep.......i really don't know what to tell you, it sounds like your parents have their minds made up, and in that case, it will be nearly impossible to change their opinion.
Good Luck,

Thanks for all your posts so far! They've been really helpful!
Oldguy: I don't think it's good how they are treating me, because I am shy anyway and now I don't have much confidence. They don't give me and responsibility for myselfe which I completely HATE!!! I think you seem to have a very decent way of how your daughter looks after herself and if I was her I would be very gratefull!!
Kity_3: my sister who is 17 next month has the same bedtime as me. She always goes to bed on time and is a complete geek. She isn't allowed to stay up much longer else she gets into trouble!!
Mmbaby: I have a lot of friends who go to bed at that time and I am on msn until that time most nights (on my iPod touch in bed like I am now on this!!) but a lot of my friends are still on around 11.30 so that isn't an unusual time to go to bed!!
Thank-you all for your posts!!!!

i agree with old guy, though i will add that i'm 17 and i still go to bed around 9 every night... by choice. sleep feels good. i have friends who stay up until 2 or 3 each night doing homework, and they're always such crabs. plus, if you embrace the rule, your parents may decide to let you stay up a bit later in the future because you were so mature.
take care!

Seriously, they're a lot more strict than I am. My 15 year old doesn't really have a bed time -- if she does something stupid because she didn't get enough sleep then she catches hell from me, but basically by this point I expect her to be able to juggle the various balls she has in the air (school & assignments & homework, extra-curricular stuff like sports and music, and her job) and make her own decisions about things like bed time. If she's getting overtired, or if her school work slides, then I'll make her quit her job and cut back on other activities. But so far she's been responsible about it.
IMHO the way to get your parents to lighten up is to demonstrate that you are responsible and that you are meeting their expectations with regard to school, behaviour and whatever else. It's not all that long until you're 18 and can be out on your own -- you'll be better off then if you're used to taking some responsibility.
