I'm from a conservative texas town, and most people are getting hitched around 25-26. Personally I don't what the rush is, but I moved to NYC and most people there get married in their late 20's to late 30's! It depends on the region.

Frankly, I think you should get married when you feel ready to settle down. But the whole race to the alter thing doesn't work out to well..a lot of my texas friends who got married early got pregnant, then fat, then they are miserable, and then they are divorced by 30.

Statistically, you improve your chances of marriage working by marrying after the age of 27 (I think I read that somewhere). However, given more information, like a stable career, emotional maturity, or even the philosophical commitment to make a marriage work, you might have a good shot.

I've seen early 20's and late 20's but not really mid 20's anymore which would have been my guess. It probably varies by generation. As for a relationship that will work and last, it's very unpredictable. However, the ones that don't seem to last are the ones that have settled at a young age or didn't give enough time to understand each other before settling down.

Not My Name agony auntIt depends on the person. I got in to a relationship in my teens that lasted almost 2 decades. Yes, we have split now (under very amicable and super friendly conditions)but it wasn't a bad innings I suppose given the time frames I have seen many marriages split up in.

meg2989 agony auntWell everyones different, I know some men and women that settle down at 18 and others that have just started to settel down at the age of 50. But I would say that a majority of people settle down from the ages of 25 - 30.

AgonyUncleDan agony auntDear LolaART,

I would say a reasonable age of settling down would be in the 30's/40's in this time you have been able to get yourself financially stable, having the good times when your young and basically having no other ties. But every person is different. All i know is that if you really want to settle down at an early age make sure it's for the right reason and that your heart is in it.
