I don't want to my children to think their dad is old, but I'm not ready for kids for a least a year or so as this is relationship in the early stages. Any help would be fantastic.

In the U.S, many in the "baby boom" generation didn't even start families until they were in their 30's, and were over 40 when the last kid was born. Read the thread "When is a woman too old to have a baby?" at http://www.dearcupid.org/question/when-is-a-woman-too-old-to-have.html .

Year or two is ok. Better wait to see if you have the right person before making children together. That would be a bigger mistake than having a child when you're "too old." But, as one comneter said, clock is tickin'.

My parents had me when my mom was 36 and my dad was 40. A bit older sure, but I wouldn't say too old.

Hi there, I suggest if you both decide that you want to have children whether now or in the future..just go to the doctor and get checked out. Make sure both of you are ok to have children, then plan it! A few friends of mine had children in their mid to late 30's and it's not old! So, like said enjoy the beginning stages of this relationship and if you decide that she'd be a great mother for your children..then plan a family. Good luck!
