I happen to be having a heavy period. I'm afraid to use tampons though, because i'm bound to put it in wrong and it will hurt. I also seem to whenever I get my period to not be able to go through the night without having an "accident" where the blood seeps through to the sheets. (sorry if this is gross!) Well, if u wear tampons to bed, do those work better to prevent accidents? Thanks for any help u can give :)

Tampons are better for periods because they tend to leak less and you continue your nomal rotiun with out any body knowing. I say this because when I get my period it is heavy, so I ahve to wear overnight pads at nigth and during the day. Then my pant are tight and alls you see is a big bludge in the back of my pants. Also tampons are easier to change at school. I say this because once aging my pads a re really thick. With a tampons you can stick it in your poket or if it is tiny enough you hlod it in the plam of your hand. In my case all other grils are in grils group, my mom would not sign the paper to ge tme into grils group. So, one week a month I am the only gril in my class and that week happens to be the week of my period. A boy ontime tripped me and I spilled my pads all over the class room floor thats why i am stwiching to tampons.

hey,
i use both, personally i feel less self consous(can't spell it) in tampons but i don't like having to remember to take them out. Have you tried the pads for nightime there longer so you are less likly to have spillage, also make sure you have the right absorbancy with pads and tampons. I find the only drawbacks of tampons is they can hurt when you pull them out and i do worry about TSS (toxic shock syndrome) but thats all on the leaflet you get in the tampons. The thing to remember with tampons is stay relaxed and it will hurt less. GOOD LUCK :)

Hi sweet,
I mix and match. I prefer tampons when my period is heavier - as remember to change them, as Emily and Tellulah point out! - and then when my period gets lighter, I use thin pads.
It's really up to you and what makes you feel the most comfortable.
Happy period!

with mine because i have long ones i mix and match...its usually pads for the first 2-3 days because i am so heavy...and then down to tampons...although as the flow gets lighter do change the sizing coz otherwise it will hurt if you do use them

Great advice from emilysanswers, except I would definatly change the tampon more often. Its so easy to forget and leave it in. You can get serious problems with poisoning from Tampons. Its a good idea to not wear them all the time.

Tampons are far better for keeping all the nasty stuff inside.
It hurt me a little bit the first time I put one in as I didn't know what I was doing and was trying to push straight up and not backwards towards my tail bone.
But once I got the hang of it they were brilliant. They are fine to use for heavy periods. Mine used to be EPIC when I was in my teens before I went on the pill. I used to use a tampon and a pad at night as I used to have accidents like you.
During the Day I would just use tampons but change them every 4-6 hours.
Pads are much simpler to use if you are having a light period or are right at the end, but if you are having the MEGA PERIOD then use all the weapons at your disposal - pads and tampons and loo roll.
If it gets too bad then maybe you could talk to your doctor about putting you on the pill now rather than waiting till you get old enough to start having sex, which could be a good few years yet.
Good Luck!! xx
