A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I’ve been good friends with my best friend’s cousin for more than a year now. I and he have been very close since the beginning. The past couple of days have really shocked me. I was dismissed one day from school and I said bye to people and he looked quickly at me, we looked at each other for a short moment then I left. Then last Thursday I finally saw him to talk to him alone on the bus. As usually he started the conversation and it was cute when he played with the little kid in front of him to make me smile. He always says “yeah that sounds like something you would do” as if he knows me and he does. He remembers a lot of what I say. He knows what day my birthday is I thought but he asked me last week in our conversation.

His cousin, my best friend, said that when I was gone he was quiet. She said that he never played with the little boy on the bus when she played with him and he only did that to impress me. Then at lunch I was talking about being a bridesmaid for my cousins wedding and she shocked me by saying “You should take Robert as an escort.” Why would my best friend say that?

I feel as if she is trying to get me and Robert together or she knows that I like him and is trying to get us together. Something doesn’t feel right? I wonder if she does that with him. Every time I’m with him and I do something funny he laughs or rolls his eyes and makes a look. I think that she was trying to get me and him together for a long time. His whole family was trying. His aunt, my best friend’s mother, when I was with her she talked about Robert and how he was a nice guy. Then his grandmother, last year when we accidently ran into him and some of his family at Burger King, told him that I was a nice girl to date. The grandmother used to tell my aunt that he liked me. I’ve been to church with my best friend’s family and Robert’s family but he wasn’t there. The whole time I was with his mother she gave me the meanest look and ignored what I say. I’m sorry this is so long! Are people hiding things they know from me? Does he like me?

A female reader, TasteofIndia United States +, writes (8 November 2009):

TasteofIndia agony auntMaybe they all think that you two would make a cute couple. Maybe they do sort of hope that you guys will get together. I don't think it sounds like a conspiracy or anything, but it sounds like they think you'd be good together. Have you asked your best friend about your hunch?

But, really, it doesn't matter what they all think, it's really about you and Robert. And yeah, it sounds like he likes you. And if you like him too, you shouldn't worry about his family and all that stuff, you should just focus on your own feelings and go for it if you please. The only other person I would ask about is your best friend, make sure she doesn't feel weird about it and won't feel too "part" of your relationship.

Why not ask him to escort you to the wedding? You can go casually and that may tell you a lot more about how he really feels about you and how you really feel about him.

Good luck, sweetness!
