Are all females overly critical of their appearance?

A male United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Hi there...well I'm just after some opinions here.

Do all females really judge themselves badly on their own appearance?

I've had a couple of girlfriends in the past, both in their early 20's, who both seemed to be convinced that they were plain looking...even though they were beautiful. My frequent insistence that they were beautiful always fell on death ears though.

Do all females do this?

PeanutButter agony auntNot all women are critical of their appearance, but this isjust human nature at work - some beautiful women find themselves incredibly unattractive and some unattractive women find themselves incredibly beautiful - this is't because either are attractive or not, it is simply because we all, as human beings, have a different perception of what is and isnt beautiful and its a cliche but beauty really is in the eye of the beholder so what you may think is beautiful in a woman the woman may thing is plain, thats all - although you do get the drama queens who MUST tell you they look aweful just so you keep giving them compliments and re-assuring you, you also get the ones that are SO far up their own backside that you want to stop them in their tracks and go look, woman, you arent all that to me - but to someone else, they will be everything...

I am 6 foot tall, heavy build, green eyes, dark hair, nice smile, im happy with what i have and my husband thinks im beautiful, that is enough for me...

life is too short to obsess over yourself, but that shouldnt stop a person from giving themselve some love and care :)

xx

Not all, there are the ones who are pretty confident in their looks, & the ones who are juss arrogant. Most do it because its easier to critize yourself first before someone else does it. its kind of a self defense thing, if that's whay you wanna call it.

Coming from a girl, you may THINK there deaf eared, but in reality we heard you & we do take it to heart, we juss don't show it.

:D hope I helped. xoxo

anoms agony aunthello, well in my experiance..yes! and mostly all the east europeans i'v known (of which i found stunning) are even harsher on themselves, "def ears" is an understatement, cause simple complements can get pretty uncomfortable and quickly. but this is a problem i'd love a solution to myself, thanks.

A reader, anonymous, writes (8 March 2009):

I am only thirteen, but most girls my age are really uncertain about their looks.

When your putting makeup on at school, girls are constantly complaining about how they look.

I mean, I am always moaning about everything to do with my appearance and stuff like that - I guess it's just normal.

Like if we get insulted about our looks we take it to heart and start going all paranoid.

BTW - that is not all girls.

ArmyMedic agony auntNo not all, some are really up themselves, but a lot of girls have some kind of insecurity, but I'm sure you have things you don't like about yourself too?
