Anyone understand the reasoning behind making high schoolers wake up so early?

This really isn't a good dear cupid question but i have no where else to ask this.

Does anyone know why they make high school students wake up so early as opposed to middle schoolers and elementary school students?

In my school district, the elementary school starts at 9, making kids get up around 7:30-8. In middle school, it starts at 8:30, making the kids get up at 6:30-7. For the high school, it starts at 7:20. My bus pickup time (I'm an incoming freshman) is 6:41, making me and other students get up at around 5:30. And I know people who have it much worse.

I read somewhere that teenagers need as much sleep as babies. Then why do they have to wake up so early for school? Wouldn't it be better for them to have more sleep so they can perform better in school? And in my experiance, little kids get up early naturally. So why let the younger kids (who don't have to put on makeup or choose their own clothes) sleep in while high schoolers have to get up early?

The education system is not there for the best interests of the students.

They would be high school kids out of bed at 3:00 AM if it served some purpose for their parents and employers.

So_Very_Confused agony auntso high schoolers can have jobs after school or team practice or be available to get the little kids because mom and or dad are at work....

BTW you could pack your bag, lay out your clothes and prep everything possible the night before.

My alarm goes off at 5 am.....I try to get to work by 6:30/6:45 so I can have the afternoon free to do my errands.

welcome to adulthood.

The Realist agony auntThey do have to stagger the schools start times so that the limited number of buses can get everyone to school and it keeps the traffic down. There isn't really a good reason why you would start that early. I have had to get up that early for university but never grades 1 through 12. It is just something for your area that you will have to deal with. After the first week or two you will get used to it.

Lucky786 agony auntLike other posts say it's to prepare you for adult life when you have to get up early and go to work. A few years ago I used to get up at 4:30am to commute to work and get there for 7:00am.

Enjoy your teen years for as long as you can, believe me it gets harder later!

Sweety Pie agony auntMaybe because your growing up and need to be more mature and have more responsibility?

Theres actually a school in Scotland who have lessons from around 12am-6pm, based on research which showed that teenagers were noctural! Not sure if I fully believe that, but they do get good results!

RedAthena agony auntOur school district has similiar schedules.

I know a few educators, so I asked them why this schedule was established.

In regards to High Schoolers, it is to prepare you for work life. Eventually, you will have to get up that early and plan out your schedule to meet the needs of your employer.

Also, the older you get, usually the less sleep you need.

If you need more sleep to feel functional, go to bed earlier:)

The elementary schoolers and the middle schoolers go in later and come out later. But the high schoolers get out the earliest. That is probably because alot of high school kids have jobs after school.
