I find an awesome way to break the tension is to have a movie playing in the background. That way, if people start to lame out and get awkward, then you have simply turned the evening into a movie night.
Get some awesome food and some music playing. Definitely have prizes for any games you might play, because that's just awesome.
Party hardy!

This is going to sound so lame from an old lady, but hire a karaoke machine. Get little gifts to give to the best singer/group of singers, and the ones who do the best dancing and the worst singers of them all....

Any games that invlolve a lot of action are good because it keeps everyone interested. But the main thing you need is snacks and music, thats a good way to ensure everyone settles into the party early! Good luck! xxx
